Every charge on the FNP-C path

  1. Exam fee: $315, or $240 for AANP members, paid with the application.
  2. AANP membership: needed only for the lower fee. The board does not print the dues; AANP sets them, so check its membership page before joining.
  3. Moving your appointment: free well ahead of the date, a $50 late reschedule closer in, and the whole fee if you change at the last minute or do not show up.
  4. Withdrawing: possible before you schedule, with a processing charge kept from the refund (see the table).
  5. Another attempt: you apply again and pay in full, up to 3 per calendar year.
  6. Board practice exams (optional): the board's $50 practice exam.
  7. Renewal: $195, or $120 for members, every 5 years; renewing by exam costs the exam fee again.

Three totals worth working out

  • First attempt, no membership: $315.
  • First attempt as a member: $240 plus dues. Membership pays off on the exam alone when the dues cost less than the gap between the two prices; the same gap comes back at renewal. At AANP's posted dues as of November 2026 ($55 a year for students, $153 for NP members), student membership costs less than the exam discount and full NP membership costs more.
  • A bad year: retakes are not discounted, so the worst case is a full fee for every attempt the calendar year allows, before you count any practice exams.

Whether you reach the retake line depends partly on the pass rate; 81% of 2025 first-time candidates passed, with the figures by year on pass rates.

How other NP boards price their exams

PNCB charges one price for the CPNP-PC with no member tier, $407 (CPNP-PC cost). ANCC ties its discounts to several associations (ANCC NP certification), and the board's other exams use the same fee structure as this one (its other certifications).

Fees and refunds, quick answers

Is a second attempt discounted?

No. A second or third attempt costs what the first did, $315 or $240 with membership (November 2026 prices).

Is AANP membership worth it just for the exam?

Only if the dues are smaller than the member discount. If you plan to renew by hours and CE, the member discount applies a second time.

What is refunded if I withdraw before testing?

Part of the fee, and only before you schedule while your window is open; a $120 processing fee is kept. After you book, late changes and no-shows lose the fee.
